Police Captain – Deadline to Apply 2-19-2025

The Circleville Police Department has an immediate opening for two (2) Captain positions to serve as part of a leadership team that delivers professional law enforcement services to a very welcoming community. The successful candidate will continue a Circleville tradition of cultivating relationships across city government and the community, building trust, creating partnerships, ensuring equitable enforcement of laws, and maintaining a high level of transparency and accountability.

This is a rare opportunity to assist in leading a law enforcement agency that adheres to the highest standards of policing. The department has an authorized force of 27 sworn officers,10 support and 16 part-time personnel.

General Definition of Work:   

Performs complex, advanced protective services work, planning, directing, and overseeing daily activities and operations of one or more police department bureaus, maintaining files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief of Police. Department supervision is exercised over all personnel within the bureau.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field and managerial or supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ten (10) years of experience as a police officer, at least four (4) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity (rank of Sergeant or above).

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing and sitting and occasionally requires walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Salary and Benefits:

The City of Circleville offers an attractive benefit package that includes health, dental, vision and life insurance after 30 days of service and membership in the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund. Salary range for this civil service classified, non-union position is $76,179.34 to $91,415.21 annually.
